I have participated in projects ranging from small size to large scale and am proud to have contributed to each of them.

It has been a truly rewarding journey. Over the past 26 years, I’ve participated in a variety of projects, each growing in scale and impact. These include establishing a front-line team specialized in food management in the fresh foods department, setting up a dedicated training center for part-time staff, and planning product assortments across different regions. Every project has contributed meaningfully to the company’s growth.

I joined 7-Eleven in 1999 through the GTP Graduate Trainee Programme an Area Manager and worked my way up to become Operations Manager. In 2000, I organized a front-line team to take care of food management, display cabinet design, and merchandising. This required me to discuss and work with several departments and to oversee the quality of food. Since I had no former related experience, it was very challenging, but together with my boss and colleagues from other departments, I learned quickly and was soon found great success in the role.

In 2004, I was assigned an important task to start a training centre for part time front-line staff. Within two years I had established the centre, providing training on operations and customer service for part time front-line staff. At one point, I even acted as a trainer myself. The experience was surprisingly rewarding; years later, I was amazed to meet a colleague who remembered that I had taught him. I never thought of myself as a teacher.

In my present role, I observe the new development direction of the company, dividing the team of over 900 7-Eleven shops in Hong Kong into different areas, in order to supply suitable merchandise for each store’s needs. This task is extremely challenging, requiring deep levels of planning and analysis, which is very different from work I have done before, but it gives me a huge feeling of success.

I’ve always enjoyed challenges, which is why I chose to work for 7-Eleven with its rapid growth strategy.

Fion Chiu, Operations Manager • Sales & Operations

I have been part of this big family for 20 years and am currently an Operations Manager overseeing more than 80 stores. I started working part-time Sales Assistant at 7-Eleven while I was still a student. After graduating and completed public exams, I joined the 7-Eleven “Store Manager Trainee Programme” where I gained comprehensive experience in store operations and applied retail theories in practice. This program helped me, a workplace newcomer at the time, grow into someone who now manages over 80 stores.

Looking back, the Programme was both practical and theoretical, with a strong emphasis on experiential learning. It provided hands-on retail experience, and the trainees shared the joys, challenges, experiences, and case studies from their store work. This helped us quickly grasp practical skills and boosted our confidence. One commendable aspect of the program is its flexibility. The training period lasts 6 to 9 months, and mentors assess each trainee’s progress. If a trainee meets the assessment criteria early, they can complete the program ahead of schedule and be promoted to Assistant Store Manager.

Over the years, I’ve had countless unforgettable experiences. For example, during the severe Typhoon Hato, our operations were disrupted, but my team and I managed to resume services for customers in a very short time. We received customer praise and a great sense of accomplishment. I believe the greatest reward from this job is the strong sense of mission in putting customers first and serving the public.

Lap Sang Law, Field Consultant • Sales & Operations

While studying accounting at university, I worked part-time Sales Assistant at 7-Eleven. After graduation, I joined the 7-Eleven “Store Manager Trainee Programme” which became my first full-time job. I’ve now been with 7-Eleven for 17 years and am currently part of the management team, overseeing more than 10 stores.

I believe that 7-Eleven’s training focuses not only on theory but also on the practical application of knowledge—especially through case studies and participation in project teams, where we learn communication and problem-solving skills from one another. I truly enjoy working with frontline staff and store support teams to overcome challenges, deliver the best products and services to customers, and achieve company goals.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this job is being able to apply forward-thinking and theoretical knowledge in real retail scenarios. For example, during the annual Hong Kong Animation-Comic-Game Expo, the Wan Chai store experiences a surge in foot traffic. Drawing on my experience and understanding of customer behavior, I was able to make precise inventory decisions that attracted more customers and boosted store sales. I was very happy to receive recognition and praise from my supervisor for this achievement.

I have completed the Level 6 Qualification Framework (QF) retail course, jointly organized by DFI Retail Group and the School of Professional Education and Executive Development (PolyU SPEED) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. This is the first QF Level 6 retail course in Hong Kong, equivalent to a Master’s degree. I pursued this opportunity to continue enhancing my knowledge and skills in the retail industry.

Peng Liu, Store Manager • Sales & Operations

I joined 7-Eleven in 2019 as a Part-time Sales Assistant while I was still studying at university. After graduation, I officially became a full-time employee through the “Store Manager Trainee Programme” and have since been promoted to Store-in-Charge, serving as a Store Manager.

I believe joining the Store Manager Trainee Programme from a part-time position gave me a certain advantage, as I was already familiar with store operations. Combined with the knowledge gained from the training program, I was able to enhance my understanding and more easily grasp standard procedures and operations. The training focused on practical management duties, and with guidance from supervisors, I didn’t have to worry about lacking social experience. When I was promoted to Store-in-Charge, the company also arranged targeted management skills training to help me adapt to the new role.

Looking back on my six years of work, I’ve had many memorable moments. One of the proudest was participating in the filming and interview for the opening of 7-Eleven’s 1,000th store, witnessing a major milestone for the company firsthand. I appreciate the company’s commitment to social responsibility, connecting colleagues to give back to the community. For example, I took part in the “Pei Ho Counterparts” volunteer activity, where frontline and back-office team members delivered meals to the elderly. Being able to help those in need through our own efforts was deeply meaningful.

Looking ahead, I’m interested in exploring both frontline and back-office roles. On the frontline, I aim to become an Area Manager, overseeing a region of stores. On the back-office side, I hope to explore the field of marketing, such as collaborating with major brands or planning product crossovers to build stronger brand value for the company. By combining the management knowledge I gained at university with the company’s training, I can further develop my strengths.

Judy Lu, Shift Captain • Sales & Operations

In 2019, I joined 7-Eleven as a Part-time Sales Assistant, mainly to take care of my newborn baby. As my child grew older, I fully committed to the workforce and have since been promoted to Shift Captain.

I initially chose 7-Eleven for its flexible working hours. Whenever there were family activities or important matters, the company was always understanding and did its best to adjust my work schedule accordingly. This allowed me to balance both life and career with peace of mind—caring for my family while being fully committed to my work.

Transitioning from part-time to full-time significantly strengthened my sense of responsibility. By assisting the manager with store operations and team management, along with the company’s structured training, my management skills have continuously improved. The company’s promotion system and development opportunities made me feel confident that going full-time was the right decision. I’ve even recommended several friends to join this big family.

What I love about 7-Eleven is the team spirit and positive energy. The unity and customer appreciation keep me motivated every day. Every colleague supports one another and steps in when needed. During busy hours, we work seamlessly together to ensure fast and quality service for our customers. One time, a customer urgently needed a specific product, but our store was out of stock. I immediately checked nearby stores for availability and suggested the fastest way to get it. He successfully purchased the item and came back to thank me for my attentiveness and proactive help. He said he truly felt the care of 7-Eleven team members, which made me feel proud. Over time, I’ve built friendships with many customers—these are precious rewards.

The company’s comprehensive training helps every colleague enhance their abilities and unlock their potential. Young people or those considering a career change should feel confident to give it a try. In the future, I hope to further improve my management skills, assist the manager in leading new team members, and grow together with the team and the company toward greater goals.
